Like Father, Like Son

Corey Whipple, a rising figure of influence has had extraordinary privileges afforded to him, being able to converse with some of the most influential and greatest minds on the planet.

Marketing in its simplest form is communicating a message. Often, the most effective tool to use is someone with a motivating story, one with traits that can appeal, educate, entertain, and empathize with an audience.

Communicating a message can take place in many forums and forms, but the below grants some knowledge upon reflection from the powerful conversation between the two figures.

Like Father, like son

Father of Marketing, Phil Kotler spoke with Corey Whipple in NYC. Whipple, in his own right may have inherited the phrase Son of Marketing following the exchange. One doesn't become more marketable than being guided by the father himself. Before an intimate and accomplished audience, the two discussed themes of innovation and marketing as a source to meet society's needs.  In a digital world, content and dialogue we can dissect, is crucial to moving forward with opportunity, hope, and optimism.  Below are our notes and a guide to serve you and your perspective.

Multi-Generational

As with the age and experience hierarchy that falls within a natural family dynamic, the father and son relationship is one that transcends time. As with Whipple and Kotler, are from two different generations but can still connect with one another.

Incredible knowledge, teaching, and understanding can take place when we take steps to look back on what got us here today.  Whipple learning from Kotler in this scenario resembles the relationship a father aims to convey to a son. Through sharing such knowledge with encouragement, this impacts the younger figure to continue their mission and goals despite inevitable difficulties along the way.

The tools, methods, and steps taken in a prior period were certainly different, but we can still learn from the methods, approach, style, and tactics to serve how we may look to do things today.

Presence

Kotler wasn't required to fund presents over the holidays for Whipple, but he absolutely was relieved to feel the presence and hope Whipple expressed.

Through concise, themed, and open dialogue, two parties can effectively come to feel and understand one another. There are obvious distinctions between the two figures, but Whipple and Kotler can still co-exist and communicate to one another.

The two differ in common characteristics that many may use to define themselves and where they come from, and such distinctions can often place a barrier between how people look to understand one another.

However, in this example one can see how important the presence is in meaningful dialogue, connecting, and sharing wisdom. Either party may not care to continue relations, ongoing work, or remain connected but for that exchange they could understand and take interest in what each had to offer.

While these can take place in many forms, the environment allowed for a productive and insightful discussion to take place. It further set the tone for surrounding leaders to be open to discussions and an ecosystem of content, conversations, and improved leadership.

Director

We typically think or categorize the father as the head of the household or home. Typically, the imagery we have for this role is one laying down the law in a strict manner. While Kotler didn't dictate what chores and duties Whipple performed in the venue, the two still communicated in a fair and opportunistic manner.

Kotler through Whipple's direction and initiative understood what Whipple needed from him. The manner in which we interact can impact the way people engage, adapt, and respond to our desires.

Whipple's approach may not be what everyone else's may be, but by choosing to open up on where he's been and where he intends to  go, his audience tends to appreciate and understand the intended mission.

The fascinating dynamic with this, is that if Whipple can add value to his brand, he can explore ways to do so with yours as well .

Stepping Up to the Stage

In many cases, the father is known to push his children harder than most. This can be be done through various actions and also by example. Apart of branding is that which we can do things that can build traits for leadership, and set an example.

Kotler, a widely respected and known figure opened a door for opportunity in this space by being available on the big stage. Such demonstrations inspired Whipple to step up, be bold, and pick the brains of Kotler in this scenario.

Sometimes, whether intended or unintended, a stage is set for you to thrive. We look forward to being that uplifting figure and source for our audience, partners, community, and brands we connect with. We encourage you to always step up to the stage.
